What must happen before you commence an eight-week course with us…

Mindfulness is a helpful and scientifically evidenced way of supporting wellbeing and is a safe practice for most people, including those with mental health issues, with certain exceptions, as long as some simple cautions are observed.

Before we start we conduct an assessment to make sure this is the right time and best fit for you.

It should be noted that these mindfulness sessions are not offered as a therapy and participants should take responsibility for themselves at all times.

ABOUT THE FREE TASTER SESSIONS

 

If you want to experience a one-to-one mindfulness session, you are very welcome to join me.

If you are a complete beginner, in the process of learning, or a graduate of a different course you are very welcome.

These sessions are very informal - some guidance, a little meditation, a brief Q & A to give anyone who wishes the chance to ask a question and information about further reading / support.

Again, there is no charge for this.

I’m also aware that you may never have had any experience of mindfulness, meditation or even perhaps a zoom meeting, but there will be friendly faces and voices to guide you - and you can drop out of the session at any time.

FACE-TO-FACE PACKAGES

 

Face-to-face if you live near Doncaster or via Zoom if you prefer or live further afield.

Where over a period of about eight weeks I immerse you in the full experience of mindfulness.

You and I log on at a pre-arranged time together

I take you though the learning, live.

The advantage to you is that I can tailor the learning experience to your needs and I can address any questions you may have in real time.

E-LEARNING PACKAGES

 

Where you download a bespoke learning pack that we prepare for you.  You work through the materials in your own time. 

An essential part of this method is scheduled meetings. 

Learning independently on your own time frame could have major advantages for you.

I know that you might not be able to commit to one-to-one sessions so I also create bespoke packages for you. 

The advantage of these packages are that I can make them to suit your needs, circumstances and time commitments and allow you to be in charge of how and when you learn.

The Oxford Mindfulness Foundation
(previously the Oxford Mindfulness Centre)

 

From personal experience I'd learnt that mindfulness had proved very beneficial for me. But I was keen to learn the science behind it.

When I first retired as a secondary school teacher in August 2017, I spend a week at St Hugh's College in Oxford, learning with what was then called the Oxford Mindfulness Centre (OMC), at their summer school. 

Inspired by Mark Williams book "Finding Peace In A Frantic World" which I'd used personally my wife, Melanie, had enrolled me on the course and I joined people from all over the world.

On the course I became totally immersed in mindfulness and was lectured by leading experts including Mark Williams, Willem Kuyken, Melanie Fennel, and Christopher Cullen.  The course included a day of silence - something I'd never done before.

 

 

 

On the 2017 course I was also fortunate to meet Nick Cook who explained to me that he trained people to become mindfulness teachers in Birmingham - something I was destined to do with him in 2019.

I returned to St Hugh's College in Oxford in August 2018 for another immersive week with the OMC.

The OMC have continued to support my mindfulness journey and I have completed some useful courses including how to teach the "Frantic World" course and how to teach "Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness"

The Oxford Mindfulness Centre are now called The Oxford Mindfulness Foundation with whom I continue to practice and learn.

Mindfulness Now

In 2019 I trained with Mindfulness Now  - Nick Cooke's organisation - at the Central England College based in Birmingham.

Having met the necessary assessment requirements, I was awarded a Certificate in Mindfulness Teaching.

 

Mindfulness Now Qualification and Listing

The qualification allows me to teach the Mindfulness Now course which is a hybrid of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

I am registered with this organisation.

  • Before going into teaching I worked in the health service in Medical Physics
  • I began my mindfulness journey a few years ago
